Carbon Footprint of Product
What is Carbon Footprint of Product(CFP)
The Carbon Footprint of Product (CFP) refers to the total greenhouse gas emissions of a product throughout its entire lifecycle (see the schematic on the right), typically expressed in carbon dioxide equivalents (CO₂e). By conducting a Product Carbon Footprint assessment, you can accurately quantify the greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire lifecycle of a product. This helps identify the primary sources of carbon emissions for the product, enabling optimization of decarbonization processes and supplier management.
It is important to define the system boundaries for conducting CFP calculation. The diagram illustrates common system boundaries.
The importance of CFP calculation and verification
Domestic and international policy requirements
CFP is a necessity under the Chinese Product Carbon Footprint Management System
CFP serves as a "Green Passport" amidst international trade barriers
Enterprise development demands
By utilizing CFP to identify decarbonization opportunities, achieve a green transformation, and qualify for government subsidies
By leveraging CFP to build a competitive advantage, shaping a sustainable corporate image, and avoiding “greenwashing”
Carbon emission reduction demands in the industry chain
CFP spans the entire process of supply chain carbon emissions, making it the foundation for understanding and reducing supply chain carbon emissions
Downstream chain-leading enterprises incorporate CFP into their supply chain management systems, compelling upstream enterprises to conduct CFP assessments
